Aufgaben:
The professorship of Agro-Ecological Modeling at the Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation is inviting applications for a Research Associate (50-100%) starting as soon as possible. This is a part-time (50%) position for a maximum of 1 year in a project (until December 2025). Alternatively, a shorter contract time with a higher proportion of working time can be agreed (up to 6 months with 100%). An option to extend the contract is being sought. Founded in 2024 within the Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation and the Cluster of Excellence PhenoRob (www.phenorob.de), our international and dynamic Agro-Ecological Modeling research group is dedicated to addressing the biodiversity crisis, with a particular focus on agriculture. We develop and apply advanced quantitative techniques to tackle critical questions and research challenges in landscape and agro-ecology, as well as biodiversity conservation. By integrating basic and applied research, we create a foundation for developing sustainable solutions that align human activities with the natural environment in a rapidly changing world. Our key research areas include: (1) Biodiversity and ecosystem monitoring, (2) Spatial analysis and land use modeling, and (3) Co-design and applied conservation. The position is part of the interdisciplinary European research project EarthBridge - Building Bridges between Earth Observation and Environmental Sciences (January 2023 - December 2025, www.earthbridge.eu). EarthBridge brings together four leading universities from Germany, Italy and Czech Republic in a collaborative effort to leverage the potential of Earth Observation (EO) data for advancing environmental and biodiversity monitoring, modelling and assessment. Your Tasks: Collate and (pre)process openly available EO data for various study regions and assess their applicability for biodiversity modeling, Analyze existing biodiversity and EO data, Collaborate and coordinate with project partners, Prepare for and participate in project meetings and interdisciplinary workshops, Publish findings in international journals, Contribute to an international summer school and e-learning material, Assist in the writing of project reports, Option to assist in fieldwork campaigns. Your Profile: Very good university degree (master's or doctorate) in environmental or geospatial sciences, landscape ecology, physical geography, remote sensing or related fields, Proficiency in geodata analysis (preferably in R or Python), Keen interest in inter- and transdisciplinary environmental research, Very good oral and written English language skills, Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative environment, Willingness to travel to other project partners in Prague, Bologna and Dresden.
