Job Description

  • With your PhD thesis you bring life into technology by developing automated isolation, enrichment and library preparation techniques from diverse clinical specimens which are relevant for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) analyses in the field of precision medicine.
  • You examine the current state of the art for isolation, enrichment and library preparation techniques and identify preferred methods capable of covering diverse biological samples.
  • Based on this, you independently design and realize an innovative system for automated preparation with the selected technologies in a microfluidic environment.
  • Furthermore, you create and integrate reliable quality and quantity checkpoints into this multistep process pipeline.
  • Last but not least, you carry out this thesis in close cooperation with a highly interdisciplinary and international team in the form of regular presentations, discussion and evaluation of your work results.

Qualifications

  • Education: excellent Master’s degree in technically oriented biology such as biotechnology, bioengineering or a related discipline
  • Experience and Knowledge: in molecular biology and biochemistry, expertise in NGS-relevant techniques and in the technical implementation of biological processes ideally using lab-on-chip systems
  • Personality and Working Practice: you work independently, plan your tasks carefully, and contribute with a high level of engagement with hands-on mentality; you clearly communicate your results, and take responsibility for your research
  • Enthusiasm: you enjoy interdisciplinary scientific work, approach complex tasks in a creative and innovative way and put them into practice
  • Languages: very good knowledge of English and German
