The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF in Jena conducts applied research in the field of photonics and develops innovative optical systems to control light - from its generation and manipulation to its application. What you will do You will join our interdisciplinary »Quantum Communication Technologies« team to bring the vision of a quantum internet a step closer to reality. Together with other scientists and engineers, you will work on the physical and technical foundations of secure quantum communication networks. What you bring to the table PhD in physics or engineering with research experience related to quantum technology Ideally, expert knowledge in the development of operational quantum communication systems in fiber and free-space links, the development of quantum communication systems and hardware, and/or in quantum random number generation Experience in the management of collaborative projects and knowledge of agile project management methods are highly beneficial Enthusiasm to take project responsibility to coordinate collaborative research activities and field demonstrations in a team with collaborators in academia and industry Excellent communication skills to present your results at local, national, and international research meetings and trade shows Ability to keep clear records while working independently and to prepare scientific publications / research proposals Proficiency in English and German makes your day-to-day work much easier What you can expect Cooperation in a collegial, open-minded, and international team in a well-equipped work environment Personal and professional development opportunities in challenging Research and Development projects Networking with first-class industrial partners and research groups around the globe Access to state-of-the-art research and engineering infrastructure Engineering facilities for fiber technology, nanofabrication, and more Fiber network and a 40-km lab-to-lab fiber link for quantum communication Free-space optics testbed for satellite quantum communications Flexible working hours and a family-friendly workplace For more information, visit us at: www.iof.fraunhofer.de/en/competences/quantum-technologies.html The weekly working time is 39 hours.
