Master Thesis in Simulation and Testing of Refrigerant Separator
Aufgaben:
Many improvement measures exist in a refrigerant circuit that can enhance the coefficient of performance, such as vapor injection, multi-stage compression or liquid fed evaporators. Some of these measures require a component in the refrigerant system that separates a two-phase (vapor-liquid) mixture into pure vapor and pure liquid. This component is called a liquid-gas-separator (LGS). The structures within the LGS direct the flow, causing liquid droplets to collect at the bottom for extraction, while vapor is drawn out from the top, maintaining a constant liquid level within the LGS. In vehicle applications, the primary requirement for the design of LGS is to minimize its size while maintaining a high level of separation efficiency. During your assignment, you will develop the simulation workflow to simulate the two-phase flow within the LGS. You will design the experimental setup to validate the observations in the simulations. Furthermore, you will conduct and evaluate measurements and interpret the results. Last but not least, you will compare the simulation and experimental results.
Qualifikationen:
Education: master studies in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Process Engineering, Automotive Engineering or comparable Experience and Knowledge: with numerical simulations (e.g. CFD, FEM, ...) and measurements Personality and Working Practice: high motivation for practical work and curiosity Languages: good in German or English
